Blog #3

I think that we have be taught how to feel in certain situations.  We have been taught these feelings by our family members, friends, as well as society.  Its hard to tell what a persons real emotions are because they have been taught how to react.

As far as the virtual world goes, I think it has had more of a negative impact on society than a positive impact.  As far as I have noticed, the only positive impact has been that it helps to build confidence in those who play the game.  it has negatively impacted people because they get so wrapped up in the game that they lose who they are. They become their character and forget about their friends and their jobs.  The game becomes their life and their main goal is to keep the electricity running (so they can play the game). I do have to admit that some of the gamers do take a step back into reality and continue to work and still spend time with their familes but will still drop everything to play the newest game.

  2. I think it’s interesting how you pointed out that they lose who they are and that is very true. The gamers become so wrapped up into the game, that they think the virtual world is there reality. I agree that I do not see much positive impact expect for satisfaction for the moment. However, when the moment is over they become depressed or sad again. The guy with the twins was complaining a little about being a broke dad, but I think it was quite ridiculous that when there electricity went out, he took the electric from the bathroom to play the game. He seriously needs to rethink some of his priorities in my opinion.

  3. I agree with the fact that the virtual world has caused a lot of Americans to get lost in the game. Many people do lose a lot of friends and family because they are so into the game. On the otherhand I think there are a lot more people who play the games and do have social lifes/family time. We just have to self-control and have the ability to put the game down and continue with our real lives.

  4. I agree with you that some people take the virtual world to far and forget that the actual world exists and that they don't live in the virtual world. I think that some people, like those you mentioned in the video, can sometimes take a step back and live in the real world. I do kind of agree that technology has made a negative impact on society, some people don't even like to leave the house because they don't want to leave their computer. I also agree that it helps to build confidence, but at the same time are they really building confidence in their face to face relationships, or is it confined to the virtual world?

  5. I hate to sound negative towards you, you're entitled to your opinion, but really there is a very very small percentage of gamers that are addicted. The documentary kind of put these people in a negative light, but really they're just normal people. Everybody has an obsession, who cares if it's in the virtual world. Of course i'm really not getting your definition of addiction, but in my own opinion you have to start missing work/social gatherings before you are officially addicted.
