Many people have said that we are the dumbest generation but every generation has been considered the dumbest generation for years now. What the older generations don't realize is that we are smart. They only want to consider a person smart if they know about history, science, or politics. They say that because we cant answer a question about one of those topics then we might as well be considered the dumbest generation. What they dont want to consider is that we know a lot about other topics. We watch the video in class of random adults of various ages try to answer questions but they couldn't answer the simplest ones. I don't think that anyone should clump everyone in a specific genereation together and call them dumb. there will always be someone who doesnt understand anything and someone who appears to be a genius.

I agree that there will always be a person who do not understand something’s and that is part of life. If one person knew everything no one would like them honestly. The older generations may not know about the topics we know and vice versa, but I think what the author of the Dumbest Generation is just trying to say that we should be well-rounded in all areas. It is ok to specialize in one thin, but it helps if you also know about other things as well.
ReplyDeleteSome people just want to hate on the younger generations. I personally dislike the younger generation, but I really have no valid reason to. It's like Bauerlein is just looking to validate his reasoning, but whatever let him hate
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you are saying, in the article it deffinatly appeared that the author was generalizing a statement about a majority, based on little evidence or the example of a few. Like you said, there are always going to be those with lesser intellegence and those with higher intellegence, but that does not mean that we should generalize about an entire generation.
ReplyDeleteI know what you are saying, I mentioned a lot of the same views in my blog. The older generation is always "smarter." Sure, we might not know a lot about ancient history or science, but we know a lot about technology.
